Origin and history of Maggi leaf Lovage Powder

Lovage (Levisticum officinale) is a perennial plant in the Umbelliferae or Apiaceae family. The plant is also known as Maggi plant because its strong smell is reminiscent of the Maggi aroma, however Lovage is not an ingredient of the original Maggi recipe. Lovage is a herbaceous plant native to Southern Europe. The Romans spread the herb with their conquests through Europe. The plant is native to South-East Asia and Iran. The species is now found throughout Europe and North America as well as sporadically in northern Thailand.

Cultivation of Lovage

The plant grows in very nutritious soil in the sun, is moisture-loving and can grow taller than two metres. Lovage has hollow stems and large umbelliferous leaves.

The Use of Lovage Lavas

It is often used as a salt substitute in a variety of dishes. Use lovage in soups, fish dishes, stews, or sauces. Also a seasoning for salads.
