Origins of Lemon myrtle
Lemon myrtle is a plant in the Myrtaceae family and is native to the subtropical rainforests of Australia. The plant can grow up to 6 metres high. The leaves are green and the flowers are creamy white. The plant blooms from summer to autumn.
Lemon myrtle is referred to as the queen of lemon herbs. Lemon myrtle is an herb, as the leaves are used as flavoring and not the fruit heads or berries. The leaves of the lemon myrtle smell and taste like lemon because of the citral.
Lemon myrtle is suitable for in biscuits, ice cream, smoothies, grilled meats, in pastas and more. The taste is quite sharp and it is recommended not to boil it for too long, in order to avoid taste amplification.
