What is eco detergent? Use of eco detergent

Eco detergent is actually an abbreviation of ecological detergent, which means a natural detergent, or an organic detergent. Eco detergent is, in short, a detergent that is made in an ecologically responsible way and that can also be used in an environmentally friendly way. Eco detergent fits perfectly within an environmentally conscious way of life.

An environmentally friendly alternative

Traditional detergents contain synthetic fragrances, but also other substances that are extracted in an unsustainable way. At Naturaplaza you will find only eco detergents, with 100% natural ingredients that are biodegradable.

Examples of organic detergents are black soap and jasmine detergent of the brand Najel. Naturaplaza also has a wide selection of soap nuts with special laundry bags. You can use these for various cleaning purposes. You can find more details by clicking on the product.

What are soap nuts actually?

Surprisingly enough, soap nuts are real nuts, which grow on the Sapindus Mukorossi tree. The nuts contain the active ingredient saponin, which acts as soap in the nut. The funny thing is that saponin is also found in potatoes, peas, spinach, and tomatoes, among other things. It just so happens that tomatoes are known to be the worst stains of all. That's the world upside down.

Where do you find the soap nut tree?

Soap nuts grow mainly in Nepal and India, but there are also plenty on the Internet. In Asian countries, the soap nuts from the 15-metre-high Brazil nut tree have been used for centuries to clean dirty laundry. The soap nut fruits are picked in the months of September and October, while white flowers already grow on them in March and April.

Use of soap nuts

Use 8 half soap nuts for washing the laundry. It is best to put a sock or cotton bag around the peanuts. The peanuts can be used 1-3 times on average. This depends on the temperature at which the laundry is washed.

The peanuts will last 1 time if the wash is washed at 90 degrees. At 60 degrees the peanuts last 2 times. Washing at a low temperature (30 to 40 degrees) makes the peanuts last up to 3 times.

It is best if you remove the bag of soap nuts from the wash immediately after washing. This prevents odours and possible stains with lighter laundry.

Buy soap nuts

At Naturaplaza you can buy Indian soap nuts. These nuts are available in packs of 1 kilo. Are you not quite sure whether peanuts are something for you? Buy a sample bag with soap nuts from us.

We also sell cotton bags to put the soap nuts in during the wash. The bag ensures that the nuts are not spread through the washing machine but keep the washing power for a clean wash.

From Homo Sapiens to Homo Saponines

Saponin is the sticky substance found in soap nuts. This substance provides the desired soap effect. The Saponin actually works in the same way as an ordinary piece of hand soap. If the nutshells come into contact with warm or cold water, the natural soap dissolves into a solution.

The advantage of soap nuts is that they don't smell (they smell neutral) and you can use them for any kind of laundry, from delicate to coloured. Plus you often don't need a fabric softener.

Creating fragrant laundry

Okay, so laundry nuts don't smell. That means that laundry washed with laundry nuts won't smell either. Most people like their laundry to smell nice and fresh, like lavender for example. Fortunately, it is not that difficult to achieve. You can just add a few drops of essential oil. Naturaplaza is also the right place for essential oils. You simply put the few drops of essential oil in the washing machine tray.

Washing your pet: from car wash to cat wash

Okay, maybe washing your cat is not a good idea. Cats don't like getting splashed with water at all and if you do have any nefarious plans, they'll smell wetness straight away. A dog, however, won't say no to a nice wash.

Did you know that you can use soap nuts not only as a detergent, but also as an organic shampoo? soap nuts are an ideal eco-detergent to scrub the fur of your pet without any nasty side effects.

Black Aleppo soap liquid

The liquid black Aleppo soap with olive oil of the brand Najel is an extremely versatile ecological detergent. The detergent originated in the southeast of Morocco and is - to our great joy - 100% natural and biodegradable.

The olive oil is ideal for removing greasy surfaces. You can use the liquid Aleppo soap both inside and outside (in the garden). The soap helps to wash grease stains out of clothes.

How do you remove stains? Simple: you rub the grease stain with some soap (of course on the inside of the garment), then wash the garment by machine on a cold temperature program. The result: a surprisingly clean and wonderfully soft garment. Also, our 100% natural detergents with jasmine fragrances provide deep cleaning.

Naturaplaza's green detergents

'Green' is another name for ecological detergents. These are detergents that are ecologically responsible. Laundry detergents are obviously very popular. When you are finished washing with peanuts you can just throw them on the compost heap. A small disadvantage of using peanuts is that they do not dissolve grease. If you have greasy textiles, you need to pre-treat them.

Detergents which may be called 'organic' have to be at least 98 percent biodegradable. This means that a maximum of 2 percent is non-biodegradable, which is not very much. Organic detergents also contain no bleaches or phosphates.

Other advantages are that the packaging of the products is completely recyclable and that the detergent is not tested on animals. In short: no one has to suffer unnecessarily and that is exactly how the world should be. Organic detergents are what planet earth in the twenty-first century needs to cope with issues such as climate pollution.

Creating a sustainable household

Switching to a sustainable household in one go can be very hectic. It is advisable to do this in steps (every contribution is one). Changing to organic detergent is a small - but very important - step in the right direction that most people can afford.

Natural ingredients don’t have a negative impact on, for example, sensitive skin and are much less likely to cause irritation.

Why use organic detergent?

People often suffer from allergies, sometimes these allergies are very difficult to trace back to a specific substance. It could be, for example, that you get a skin reaction when you use a certain detergent. This can be caused, among other things, by synthetic substances in 'normal' detergents. Not everyone can tolerate them.

Other allergens such as perfume can also cause skin irritation: not very useful since you wear your clothes directly on the skin.

Washing with baking soda

Organic baking soda, also called "baking soda", can have a purifying effect on your laundry. Although the white powder is mainly used for making airy bakes to nibble on, you can also use it to clean.

The first advantage of baking soda is that it is fairly cheap. Besides that, baking soda is ideal for removing strong smells in clothes, caused by bacteria in sweat or from dirty dishes and towels.

Ordinary detergents usually do not contain enough enzymes to deal with odour-causing bacteria. Baking soda can regulate the pH level of water, allowing soap to do a better job of fighting odours.

You can also use baking soda as a fabric softener, for example, to replace synthetic fabric softener. This way, you think of the environment, while you don't have to deal with stiff and rigid clothes, which feel unpleasant on the body. What's more, regular fabric softeners can leave behind soap scum, which can make sweaty odours more likely to emerge.

Did you know that baking soda can even be used to clean an iron? Baking soda is namely a soft abrasive, with which you can subtly remove moisture- and soap stains from the iron.

How do you do that? Simple: you first make a kind of thick "paste" of baking soda and water and then rub this with a clean cloth over the surface of the iron. A cloth with bleach vinegar removes the last soda residue.

Cotton clothes organic washing

Using an ecological detergent is the best way to wash your organic cotton bedding and clothing. There are even washable sanitary towels made of cotton. You want all these things, which are directly connected to the body, to be washed ecologically and not to use synthetic products. That way, you can avoid any allergic reactions.

Extra attention to special baby and children's clothing

Babies and small children require extra laundry. Organic cotton children's clothes, such as washable nappies and wipes, are completely free of harmful substances and also feel nice and soft. You can also take your child to the swimming pool with an organic cotton swim nappy. Of course, you want to wash these organic children's clothes with an organic detergent as well.

Use of organic stain sprays

Stain sprays are designed to remove stubborn stains that a regular detergent can't get out. You can use a strong chemical product for this purpose, but a better alternative is an ecological stain spray. This will help you in an environmentally friendly way.
