Nutrikraft Vitamin D3 supplements contains 60 oval yellow softgel capsules. These capsules have a fatty structure, this is because vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin.

Our skin can convert sunlight into Vitamin D3. This is actually not a vitamin but a hormone-like substance. Our bodies eventually convert this hormone into an active form of Vitamin D. But in temperate regions, with distinct seasons, the sun does not always shine hard enough for the production of Vitamin D3. So from roughly October to April, your skin does not make vitamin D from sunlight.

Vitamin D from animal products

Fortunately, vitamin D3 is also found in food. Vitamin D3 is mainly found in foods of animal origin, such as fatty fish and, to a lesser extent, in meat and eggs. Yet it remains a challenge to get enough vitamin D3 in winter. When there is a shortage of vitamin D3, it is important to make up for it with supplements.

Plants also make a form of vitamin D with sunlight. We call it Vitamin D2. It has slightly different properties and vitamin D2 is less well absorbed by the human body.

Advice

We recommend adults to take 1 capsule daily with a (fat) meal. Each capsule contains 75 mcg Vitamin D3. This daily quantity should not be exceeded and the capsules should be kept out of reach of children, closed, cool and dry.
