Origin Pine Needles Tea

Pine-needle tea is made from pine needles of the fir tree. A pine is a needle tree with green needles and the tree occurs naturally on dry and usually infertile soils in the entire northern hemisphere. The pine needles are collected in the summer and dried in the air.

Pine tea has been drunk for a long time. The history of pine needle tea goes back to the European settlers who arrived in America. The European settlers suffered from scurvy due to a lack of vitamin C and the Native Americans introduced pine needle tea to them.

Pine needle tea is perfect to combine with herbs such as star anise, thyme, echinacea, eucalyptus and mint. Or with flowers like camomile, lavender or chrysanthemum.

Healthy Properties of Pine Needle Tea

Pine needles tea has healthy characteristics due to the vitamins it contains. Pine needles tea is rich in vitamin C, vitamin A and beta-carotene. The vitamin C gives a boost to your resistance. In addition, the tea contains antioxidants and has an expectorant effect, which can help with a stuffy nose or phlegm cough.

Pine Needles Tea making

The pine needles tea has a slightly sour, refreshing taste. Here you can buy this pleasant pine tea to make a nice cup of pine tea!

Making pine needle tea is easy and you only need the pine needles and a filter to make the tea. Then you can follow the following steps to make a cup of pine tea:

  • Rinse the needles with water
  • Slightly bruise the needles.
  • Put about 4.5 grams of tea needles into a tea filter/infuser. If it doesn't fit, cut them in half.
  • Place the filter in a cup
  • Pour in freshly boiled (filtered) water.
  • Keep it for 7-10 minutes (the longer you let it steep, the stronger the taste will be).

Do not boil the needles, this ensures that the vitamin C disappears and that is a shame.

Pine Needles Iced Tea

Vitamin C degrades at temperatures above 30 degrees, but this happens quite gradually. You can also soak the pine needles in water at 30 degrees for an hour to make "iced tea". That way you fully preserve the good qualities in the needles. Use preferably filtered or spring water.
